<idAbs>

This dataset is maintained to track and visualize Fences on OSMP properties and some easements. This is intended to be a living dataset for the purposes of asset and workorder management. Fence (and Gate) data are part of the Beehive system and some attributes are maintained there. In preparation for inclusion in Beehive, there were several schema changes in 2020 and as such many attributes have not been populated. Data is likely not spatially complete but should include fences along trails, ag properties and trailheads. As fences are removed on the ground, they are deleted out of this dataset.

</idAbs>

<attrlabl>COMMENT</attrlabl>
<attrdef>Comments about fence segment. In some cases this is used to further describe the fence type. • The number indicates the number of strands in question [1-9]
• The next two letters indicate the fence type.
• sw = Smooth Wire
• bw = Barbed Wire
• ht = High Tensile
• I think those are the only instances • The final letter describes where the strands are positioned on the fence.
• t = Topmost strand
• b = Bottommost Strand
• m = Somewhere in the Middle
High Tensile fencing equipped with spacers made of plastic rather than wood have the word ‘PLASTIC’ in the comments field.
Down/standing – for fences that were badly damaged and often apparently abandoned, these designations were used to further elaborate on their condition. “down” indicates that the entire length of fence, including the fence posts have succumbed to gravity and are lying on the ground. “> down” indicates that mostof the fencing material, including posts, are down on the ground. “> standing” indicates that while the fence is definitely in disrepair, it is for the most part still standing and easily identified as a fence rather than evidence of some kind of illegal barbed wire dumping activity.
• empty fence posts – fencing material (such as barbed wire) has been removed, leaving only standing fence posts.
• RESTORATION – Predominantly 20’ – 50’ lengths of rim and rail type fence used to keep visitors (not livestock) off of recently restored or otherwise sensitive areas.
• snow fence/knapweed – indicates sections of fencing not intended to control livestock but to limit the movement of snow and/or knapweed</attrdef>
