Service Description: Climate Initiatives (CI) contracted the services of PlanITGeo to create an interactive web application in 2023. It summarizes Boulder's canopy coverage within various geographies, including census tracts, block groups, Uber H3 hexagons, city parcels, subcommunities, school properties, and watersheds.
Part of the agreement with PlanITGeo included access to the raw Land Use Land Cover (LULC) rasters that feed those summaries. These raw data cover the BCVP planning area + a half mile buffer, and they were created by a machine learning algorithm applied to NAIP imagery flown in 2021. Resolution for 2021 NAIP imagery is 60cm, and the data show seven different land use classifications:
1 = Non-Tree Vegetation
2 = Bare Soil and Dry Vegetation
3 = Impervious
4 = Water
5 = Tree Canopy
6 = Shrub/scrub
7 = Tree Canopy over Impervious
This service is a vector representation of that raster data, and it has been tiled to improve drawing speed in web maps.
